Marsh Farm Triangle
Dunnock Marsh Farm Triangle
Loggery

The small area that has come to be known locally as “the Triangle” is a tiny patch of woodland and scrub that is sandwiched between the Rifle Club entrance drive, Marsh Farm Lane and the River Crane. This forgotten corner forms provides a pleasant backdrop to the West Craneford Playing Field and is an isolated (and hence valuable) corner for wildlife along this section of the Crane. It is at its best in early spring when the Blackthorn and Wild Plum come into full bloom.

FORCE has informally taken over management of The Triangle and is conducting ongoing work on this site, including:

  • Rubbish clearance.
  • Removal of invasive plants such as bindweed.
  • Improving aspects of the site for wildlife.
  • Selective planting to enhance the habitat.
  • Path maintenance.
Latest News: To a certain extent we have become victims of our own success on this site as it is now used extensively by locals and College students. There are ongoing litter problems and the wall opening has been damaged. However the benefits of open access appear to exceed the drawbacks as many people have expressed thanks for this work, making the Triangle a popular feature in the area.
Past work:
  • Creation of two footpaths through part of the site, part of which will hopefully become part of a longer riverside path from the railway station to Crane Park.
  • Opening up the wall to allow access from Marsh Farm Lane.
  • Erection of nest boxes.
  • Building of beetle loggeries.
  • Provision of log seating.
