The Twickenham
Rifle Club consists of a clubhouse and
shooting ranges, occupying the western section of a small area of
grassland
next to the River Crane. As
the club
only manages a small part of this site, most of this area has developed
into a
grassland environment of local importance.
FORCE
successfully argued at the public inquiry in December
2003 that the Rifle Club should not be subject to development.
FORCE
has held a series of workdays based at the Twickenham
Rifle Club. Ongoing work at this site includes:
- Painting
over graffiti on the walls of the clubhouse
and rifle ranges.
- Hedge
planting along the edge of the clubhouse, entrance
drive and around the Environmental Agency hut.
- Monitoring
of wildlife and plants.
| Latest News: Several
of the hedges are developing fairly well, with good stands of Wild Hops
creeping along the Rifle Club Wall helping to deter graffiti artists. |
Past work:
- Placing
of nest boxes to encourage recolonisation of the site by House Sparrows.
- New railings on Marsh Farm
Lane have opened up views of the Rifle Club grounds.
- Planting of ivy on the Marsh Farm Lane Rifle Club wall base.
