| MAMMAL SURVEY.
Alison Fure has just completed a survey for mammals on the Rifle
Club and Mereway. Healthy populations of Wood Mice were found at both
sites but by far the most exciting record was of Leisler's Bat, recorded each night over the Rifle Club. This nationally rare species of bat is a very exciting find. |

An excellent local turnout at Mill Road improved the pathways by laying
woodchips (from a recently felled park tree). A small skip was also
filled with debris from the river. The river around Mill Road has never

SPRINGTIME SAFARI.
FORCE was one of several local organisations taking part in this hugely
successful event in the grounds of Orleans House. Children followed a
trail through the grounds, visiting stalls maintained by local
environmental groups. Visitors to the FORCE stall learned about the
lifecycle of dragonflies and were able to decorate one into the
bargain...

WORK DAY.
Around ten volunteers enjoyed winter sunshine as the banks of the Crane

scrub vegetation. This was part of ongoing attempts to keep this area
open and to develop a reed bed at the site. Next month sees reed
planting at the same location.

The Woodpecker Bench.
FORCE is pleased to welcome the arrival of the Woodpecker Bench onto
the southeastern corner of Craneford East Playing Field. The
Woodpecker Bench depicts two Green Woodpeckers (and the ants on which
they feed) which can be regularly seen at this location. This is the
second in our series of sculpted benches created by the artistry of Paul Sivell.
See press release for more details. |
