Duke of Northumberland's River
The DNR by the Stoop
Grey Heron Great Willowherb

The Duke of Northumberland's River is a historic waterway that branches off from the River Crane at the weir next to Kneller Gardens. The Duke of Northumberland's River provides a quiet sanctuary for many river species (including Kingfishers) as it gently flows behind the two rugby grounds and eventually into the Thames.

Ongoing projects that FORCE is currently involved in along the Duke of Northumberland's River include:

  • Management and enhancement of the riverside path that runs behind The Stoop in order to improve this bank both as a wildlife habitat and as a public footpath.
  • Species monitoring.
Latest News:  Harlequins have transferred a section of land over to council management and installed a new fence, preparing the way for improvements to public access along the Duke of Northumberland's River. We hope to progress this in 2008.
